WHAT HAPPENED?
The 22-year-old collapsed on the pitch during Fiorentina's Serie A clash with Inter last weekend and, after a spell in intensive care, he is now recovering from this harrowing ordeal. According to , the midfielder is scheduled to have an operation where he will be fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) – something Christian Eriksen has had since suffering a cardiac arrest playing for Denmark at Euro 2020. As a result, Bove will never be able to play in the Italian league again due to the country's sports medicine regulations on subcutaneous (under the skin) defibrillators.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
While Inter cancelled Eriksen's contract in late 2021, the Dane has enjoyed a career renaissance in recent years, playing for Brentford and current club Manchester United. So while this is a huge blow for the young Italian, he could yet continue his career and play abroad in the future. But his health is the number one priority.
